Also known as: Tradition

The word "tradition" in a Wiccan context can be understood as a pseudonym for the various Wiccan spiritual sects, which share commonalities and discrete areas of difference.

Wiccan traditions can be compared to the various sects within the Abrahamic triad of Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

Commonalities include gathering in small groups of initiates called "covens".

Traditionally, most Wiccan traditions use a hierarchy with a clear division between those who have been initiated and those who have not, through ranks and degrees. Traditions either had a four- or five-rank system, with the ranks bestowed before initiation allowing access to the outer grove, and the rest reserved for those who had attained a degree of initiation, who were also welcome in the inner court.
