Sections were distinct miniature cities within the habitat. Each one contained everything necessary for its residents to live, work and thrive. In an emergency, sections could be self-contained, each able to supply life support to the floors it held.
Each habitat was structured to hold 14 sections, each of which contained 33 floors. There were only two ways to travel between sections: using the Central Platform Tube, which was primarily used to carry materials, and the lifts, which held people. A lift could travel from the top entrance to Section 1 in ten minutes. Each Section had three floors with lift access.
Sections were labeled according to their placement, with Section 1 being on the bottom and Section 14 at the top. Sections were populated from the bottom up as the population grew. Section One was first populated in the 1990s (pre-catastrophe).
Each Section hosted specialties in upper-level academics and the sciences; Section 1, for example, hosted the Colleges of Physical Science along with a physics department.
